The Rev. Dr. Kyle Schiefelbein-Guerrero, Bridge Pastor

I am Pastor Kyle, and I am the Bridge Pastor during this season. I serve CLC while on sabbatical from Lutheran Theological Seminary Saskatoon in Saskatchewan, Canada, where I am the Grace Professor of Leadership and Director of Contextual Formation, where my students know me as “Dr. KSG.”

I grew up in a small town in west-central Minnesota, where my family still lives. I earned a B.A. in history and German studies from the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities and an M.Div. from Luther Seminary in St. Paul. Because the ELCA had not yet changed its policy on ordaining LGBT pastors, I paused the ordination process and moved to Berkeley, California. There I completed a Ph.D. in liturgical studies and systematic theology at the Graduate Theologica Union (GTU), while serving first as a teaching assistant and later as a lecturer at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (PLTS).

After completing my doctorate, I continued teaching at PLTS and working at GTU. I then
accepted a tenure-track professorship in worship at United Lutheran Seminary in Philadelphia and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. While there, I resumed the ordination process and completed an internship at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Philadelphia, serving a comparable role to “bridge pastor.” That experience now informs my ministry at CLC.

In July 2023, I moved to Saskatoon to begin my current professorship. Because our students study primarily online and gather on-site for intensive classes, I can live in California with my husband, Rommel, when I am not needed on campus. I completed the ordination process through the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and was ordained in January 2024 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in San Francisco. I had been a member of St. Mark’s while living full-time in the Bay Area, and Rommel remains a member there.

Along with presiding and preaching on Sundays and providing pastoral care, one of my main ministries at CLC is “Listening to God Together,” accompanying the congregation as we discern and discover what God is up to among us. Sabbatical-related travel will take me away on some Sundays, but I look forward to worshiping, listening, and serving alongside you throughout this season.

Oh Hello,

I’ve been Christ Lutheran’s part time parish assistant since 2023. My background is in art & design, so when I stared CLC I had zero church experience. The staff and members of CLC have been extremely welcoming and helpful in my learning journey. I enjoy putting together the weekly bulletin and newsletter for everyone. My favorite activity at the church is making sandwiches for GRIP.

I graduated Sacramento State with an art degree and always knew I wanted to live in the bay area. I’ve been back and forth between El Cerrito/Richmond and Auburn/Cool over the years, but the bay truly feels like home. I’m definitely a California girl and plan to stay forever.

Most of my time is spent in the art & design world. I am the office manager at a glass blowing studio in Richmond. While I did try glass blowing once it is not for me. I stick to drawing, coloring, and jewelry making. My partner and I have a collaboration art project together and have done several art festivals and gallery shows around the bay.

I’m in the office Thursday afternoons and remote the rest of the week. I’m always happy to help, so if there is anything you need please email me! I’ll help find you an answer or find the right person to put you in contact with.
